Resumen:

This paper presents the results of a comparative evaluation of the seismic performance of two RC bridge columns, one of a full cross section and the other of a hollow cross section. The full section specimen has a cross section of 120×80 cm and a height of 500 cm, whereas the hollow column has an interior section of 96×56 cm, and 12 cm for thickness. The specimens were subjected to a cyclic reversal loading pattern. Experimental tests were carried out in order to evaluate the performance of the specimens at the limit and ultimate stage; flexural and shear strengths, and ductility capacity were observed as well. Tests were performed at the laboratory of great structures of CENAPRED. © 2013 Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK.
