Resumen:

Jarosite type compounds allow the incorporation of several elements of environmental importance such as arsenic, mercury, lead, chromium and thallium. Arsenic incorporated into the structure of jarosite can be stabilized in a wide range of environmental conditions, such as pH, temperature and particle size. Ammonium jarosite with incorporated arsenic was synthesized using the precipitation method in sulfate media, and several methods of characterization were used. XRD results showed that the obtained product is an ammonium jarosite with arsenic incorporated in the structure. Morphology showed spherical particles with majority sizes between 37-54 microns with rhombohedral crystals strongly joined together. According to the chemical analysis results, the approximate formula of the compound is: [(NH4)091(H 3O)0.09] Fe2.45 [(SO4)180 (AsO4)0.20] [(OH)4.35 (H2O) 1.65]. © 2014 by The Minerals,Metals & Materials Society.
