Resumen:

A recently devised method to measure the effective refractive index of highly turbid media, based on the transmission of backscattered light near the critical angle, is used to measure the refractive index of human blood. We present preliminary results showing the feasibility of such measurements and indicating that red cells in blood in our experiments decrease the effective refractive index below the value of the blood's plasma. © OSA 2014.
