Resumen:

Keynes and Kalecki rejected the full-employment mechanism envisioned by the economic orthodoxy. Therefore, they proposed that fiscal and monetary policies could, and should be implemented to bring about full employment. This chapter takes the Keynes-Kalecki view of macroeconomics to the data, using modern econometric techniques. The author first explores the effects of changes in income distribution on the level of output and employment. He then considers if macroeconomic policies do exert a lasting influence on those same variables. It is shown that these polices do influence effective demand, both in the short and in the long run. On the other hand, the author finds that the shift from wages to profits ensuing from unemployment, instead of stimulating demand and output as per the conventional view, depresses them both. © Oxford University Press, 2015.
