Resumen:

This paper applies structural analysis to design a fault diagnosis system for the steam turbine model of a combined cycle power plant with two gas turbines and a steam turbine. The steam turbine dynamic model has 25 non linear algebraic and differential equations. Based in a matching procedure applied to the graph incidence matrix of the corresponding structural model, a set of redundant equations is obtained first and then the analytical redundant equations. After that the residuals for faults in sensors and actuators are generated, as well as the fault signature and the isolability matrices, both for sensors and actuators faults, to show some advantages of the application of structural analysis to fault detection in a large scale system. Another important issue shown in the paper is the generation of noisy residuals when their implementation is based in pure differentials. Finally, with the developed fault diagnosis system, integrated in a combined cycle power plant simulator, sensor and actuator faults were simulated and the results are presented. Copyright 2007 ISA.
