Resumen:

The effect of a hydraulic structure in a flood plain stream is presented. Besides the bed topography, measured water levels and discharges along a 10 km reach where the weir will be located are available for some discharges. The must suitable flow resistance method for the reach is selected after a comparison of computed backwater profiles with the measured ones. A mobile bed mathematical model is used for a comparison of the "equilibrium" river conditions and the disturbed conditions once the weir is constructed. The effects in the sedimentation and erosion patterns in the whole reach are discussed. The computations are complemented with a mobile bed physical model, scale 1:40. The physical model permits to visualize local erosion downstream the structure, and a tendency of erosion on both riverbanks. © 2006 Taylor & Francis Group.
