Resumen:

This paper presents the result of an investigation on an approximate method for the construction of the capacity curve of a structure. It presents a comparison of results obtained from force pushover, evolutive modal spectral and incremental dynamic analysis; using as a reference the last one; with the aim of showing their potentials and limitations. For the evaluation of the proposed and other methods the seismic capacity curves of two reinforced concrete frames 8 and 17 storeys tall are investigated. Finally the conclusions derived from this investigation are given. © 2010 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
