Resumen:

The knowledge identification process is an early stage of the knowledge management cycle. Based on the artifact concept, the relational databases technology, and the assumption of different levels of information structure according to the store media, we propose a methodology (k-item methodology) to perform the knowledge identification stage in multidisciplinary research units. We applied this methodology to analyze a multidsciplinary research group. We obtained a database of metadata about artifacts that improved the flow of knowledge between scientists and the development of a strategic plan for knowledge administration has been guided based on this assessment stage of the methodology. This methodology presented also might be applied to others multidisciplinary scientific groups as a tool for the identification stage of the knowledge management process, and also in the definition process of the knowledge management plan.
