Resumen:

The frits are insoluble vitreous products, obtained from the fusion of a mixture of raw materials, that are quickly cooled in order to obtain a crumbled material, later to be used as glass or glass-ceramic coating of ceramic material in order to improve, to a great extent, their mechanical properties. The introduction of glass-ceramic materials as coating provide a surface in which crystals form and results in improved surface properties. In the last years, as glass-ceramic coating, crystalline systems are considered which incorporate inorganic solid waste as alternative source of raw material. Also elements considered as polluting agents can act as nucleating agents favouring the homogenous or heterogeneous crystallization in glass ceramic systems. The present work shows preliminary studies on the use of waste generated in mining-metallurgical plants (gold and silver) to develop formulations of glass-ceramic systems SiO2-Al2O3-R where R= CaO, ZnO and Li2O to be applied i as coating.
