Resumen:

Nowadays, one of the main problems of teaching science to high school students is that it is carried out in a decontextualized manner, causing student loss of motivation in learning, making it difficult to integrate knowledge in a meaningful way. The World Bank and UNESCO (2005), The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (2006) and The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (2010) agreed that the main goal of middle education should be that students acquire skills, knowledge and proficiencies in order to continue learning throughout life. In this chapter we propose Problem-Based Learning (PBL) as a contextualized teaching strategy approach. Our research on PBL applied to teaching biology shows that high school students develop self-regulated learning and skills for collaborative work reasoning, organization and communication. © 2016 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
