Resumen:

This chapter aims to provide an overview of the emerging field of species-level distributional ecology in birds. Although such studies have been developed for decades, recent advances in making large quantities of occurrence data and environmental data openly available have fostered many advances in the field, showing that distributional data extend the utility of specimens in scientific collections far beyond the specimen itself. We review insights that are available via such analyses, and major challenges that still constrain advances in the field © 2018 by American Ornithological Society CRC Press is an imprint of Taylor & Francis Group, an Informa business.
