Resumen:

Since the beginning of the twenty-first century, Mexicans have been able to enjoy something that many previous generations had dreamed of but were unable to achieve: a political regime in which parties and candidates freely compete for office, where the civil and political rights of citizens are guaranteed by law, and where diversity is not only tolerated but often even promoted and applauded. This achievement is far from complete, however. Inequality and poverty seem as intractable as ever, and political corruption as pervasive as it was during colonial times. A wave of criminal violence engulfed much of the country precisely when it had just begun to enjoy the blessings of competitive politics. But even with these problems, Mexico is going through one of the more dynamic and challenging epochs of its long and often convulsive history. © 2018 Taylor & Francis.
