Resumen:

In the design of ultrasound therapy transducers it is important to obtain the biggest ultrasound output power possible, but other consideration must be taken into account. In the classical design a ?/2 front plate is used to protect the piezoceramic from the external environment and it is usually made of aluminum. Nevertheless, this resonance system has bigger acoustical impedance than in the soft biological tissue (water load) and consequently the bandwidth is quite narrow. Therefore, investigations most look toward a design that increases this parameter. This paper presents a new approach for ultrasound therapy transducer design that employs piezocomposite materials preferably in low intensity ultrasound applications as in the stimulation of bone repairing. © 2004 IEEE.
