Resumen:

Parental alienation syndrome(PAS) is described as a mental illness in which a child is involved in the separation or violent divorce of the parents by psychologically manipulating him or her to be strongly associated with a parent (alienator) and to reject the relationship with the other parent (alienated) without legitimate justification. The child could be a victim of one or several types of child abuse such as sexual abuse, psychological abuse and neglect in the course of a separation and divorce of the parents. The magnitude of the child's problems can be associated with the type of separation, the age and gender of the child and the predominating inclination of the child's relationship (mother-child or father-child). Usually, there is an increase in emotional manifestations of the child such as depression, anxiety and aggression. Therefore, it is pertinent to consider the age of the child and the physical, intellectual, emotional and economic capacity of the parents to always ensure the best interests of the child. In this chapter we will discuss how the parents' divorce or separation affects the mental, emotional and physical health of the children in such a family. © 2018 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
