Resumen:

Pregnancy in adolescents is a gestational process that occurs in the life stage of a girl who has not completely concluded her biopsychosocial growth and development. According to its administrative record, a gestation that occurs between 10 and 19 years of age should be considered as teen pregnancy. Its impact is reflected on the health, education, life project, social and cultural relations of the girl as well as on her and her family economy. Being an adolescent mother or father is usually fraught with and/or re-enforces, without social distinction, a series of associated conditions of vulnerability. The processes of professionalization and adaptation, of education, health, communication and of other conditions that may serve as a vehicle for the application of preventive strategies to prevent the phenomenon are extremely necessary. The results obtained presume a partial success in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies in this stage of life thus, re-enforcing the achievements which can be obtained with additional strategies. Due to the multifactorial nature of its genesis, teen pregnancy will have an individual expression. Generally, the magnitude of the impacts depends on the circumstances of the person, the couple, the family and the society as well as on the demographic circumstances of each country and its different regions. Hence, a general approach with an individual flexibility is required when dealing with teen pregnancy. This chapter reviews teen pregnancy, its predisposing factors and its prevention. © 2018 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
