Resumen:

This chapter presents a historic perspective of pincer-type ligands that feature anionic sulfur-based donors, such as thiolates, thiophenolates, and some examples of thioamides and their corresponding thioamidates. Further development of the field considers a more lose definition of pincer ligands, including central donor atoms such as nitrogen; in addition, the closely related selenolates have also been included in this chapter. Recent developments consider biologically inspired metal complexes that provide structural and spectroscopic insight to the active sites of selected metalloenzymes. The pincer-based model systems may help understanding the mechanism of some of the efficient biochemical transformations mediated by such active sites, while developments in bioinorganic systems may provide further inspiration for new pincer-type complexes. © 2018 Elsevier Inc.
