Resumen:

A zero-point system model was developed to simulate existing data on the fate of ethylenethiourea (ETU), a main metabolite of a group of fungicides with wide distribution, in soils. Submodels for sorption, photodegradation and abiotic oxidation were validated with data from literature, and incorporated in the overall model for biotic degradation in soil. The sorption submodel developed depends on temperature, pH, mass fractions of clay and organic matter, water volume, soil bulk mass and initial ETU concentration as input parameters. It was able to predict the apparent distribition coefficients for eight different soils from two publications with a R 2 of 0.992. The models for chemical degradation processes were able to simulate decomposition kinetics from various studies with a general R 2 > 0.99. The overall model was able to represent data on ETU degradation dynamics in bioactive soil with a determination coefficient of 0.9985. © 2010 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
