Resumen:

The effect of increasing concentrations of calcium and sodium on the kinetics and isotherms of sorption and desorption of atrazine in three agricultural soils was investigated. Soils were treated with different saline solutions. Atrazine sorption and desorption isotherms were fit to the Freundlich model. The percentages of atrazine sorbed and desorbed were from 24 to 32% and from 34 to 44%, respectively. The addition of sodium concentrations (8 mM) to the soil solution, with calcium (10 mM) as background electrolyte, inhibited sorption and desorption kinetics of atrazine on soils. Hence, sodium enhanced the sorption and inhibited the desorption capacity of the soils. However, the increase of sodium (39 mM) and calcium (58 mM) concentrations not affected the sorption kinetics of atrazine and the sorption capacity of the soils. © 2010 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
