Resumen:

Stable carbenes have proven to be invaluable additions to the domain of transition metal chemistry. The use of carbenes as ancillary ligands in transition metal-mediated catalysis continues to grow, not only because they are among the strongest s-donor ligands but also because the stereo-electronic properties can be easily modified by changes to the substituents. This broadening of carbene backbones has extended to multidentate and, of particular interest to this work, pincer ligands. One complication in the use of carbene ligands is the generation and storage of the free carbenes, which requires strong bases, dry solvents, and inert conditions. To avoid these stringent conditions, direct metalation and transmetalation methodologies have been developed. Herein the application of these direct metalation and transmetalation methods as applied to bis-carbene pincer ligands featuring pyridine or aryl linkers will be explored. © 2018 Elsevier Inc.
