Resumen:

This paper deals with the different modelling approaches used to compute soil pressures over shaft linings. The effect of the shaft-soil interaction is assessed in computing shaft pressures, as well as the effect of material constitutive model and the effect of modelling the excavation and lining installation process. The fi nite difference method was used for numerical computations, and interface elements were set to account for the interaction between the shaft lining and the surrounding soil. To have a comparison basis, all the numerical results are contrasted to those obtained by Prater's analytical method. Comparisons showed that neglecting the interaction between the shaft and soil, as assumed by continuum models, leads to higher values of the horizontal pressure, close to the active stress.
