Resumen:

The primary function of cell surface receptors is to recognize specific ligands from among an immense number of chemically diverse substances and to act as signal transducers, selectors of signaling, and amplifiers of the stimulus or message carried by external, systemic or local stimuli. Extracellular signal-evoked receptor activation triggers one or more cascades of intracellular events, which usually culminates in highly specific biological responses, either stimulatory or inhibitory, of a given cell function. © 2017 Elsevier Inc.
