Resumen:

Crohn?s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are the two major forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that can affect the rectum and result in the development of perianal disease characterized mainly by fistulas, specifically in CD patients. Other anorectal disorders comprise the presence of tags, hemorrhoids, perianal abscesses, and fissures. Multidisciplinary collaboration between gastroenterologists, colorectal surgeons, and other specialists is essential for the success of medical or surgical therapy in order to maintain long-term rectal function and continence as well as improvement to the quality of life of IBD patients. © 2019 Elsevier Inc.
