Resumen:

Violence in all its manifestations is, unfortunately, the current situation that prevails in the world. Violence has been classified into three large groups, depending on the context in which it is inflicted: selfinflicted, interpersonal and collective violence. Violent acts can be physical, sexual, emotional or psychological or exercised by inattention. According to the International Classification of Diseases, it is a condition that integrates basically four modalities: physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse and neglect. In the violence between humans, interpersonal and inter-community violence as well as violence among countries can be highlighted. Interpersonal violence is the most common among humans and can happen between members of the same family or between couples or friends. In all these forms of violence, physical violence (PA) stands out and this affects both children and adults. PA in children has been considered as an act or acts in which the caregiver has caused; intentionally or accidentally; pain, physical and/or emotional damage to a girl, a boy or a teenager. PA can be visible and invisible. However, its diagnosis is beclouded by confusion and lack of precise diagnostic instruments. To deal with this problem, the Comprehensive Care for Battered Child Clinic of the National Institute of Pediatrics (CAINMINP), Mexico City has come up with a series of indicators that allow establishing or ruling out if the injuries suffered by a child were caused by an accident or PA. PA risk factors are classified into factors of the minor, factors of the parents and family and school or environmental factors. Its consequences can be immediate or long-term. The probability of the victim having a negative cognitive performance and psychosocial functioning in his or her life in the short, medium and long term are, especially, when the victim has faced more than four adverse experiences in childhood (AEC). When PA in boys, girls and teenagers is wellfounded, the management must be medico-legal. The prevention of PA is extremely important and must consist of both primary and secondary interventions so as to radicate or substantial reduce the occurrence of the phenomenon in the world. This chapter highlights the importance of recognizing child maltreatment, the modalities of childhood physical abuse and the way to prevent it. © 2018 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
