Resumen:

A modeling prototype to analyze the accuracy to extract data from photoelasticity images is presented; digital image processing is performed to recover the stress information from intensity images. To assess the accuracy of the procedure a FemLab 2D stress simulation was performed to generate the stress field from an arbitrary geometry. An optical engine was produce to simulate the images from a polariscope. MatLab is used to extract the stress information from the images and compared with the results from FemLab. The simplicity to extract the information from photoelasticity pictures indicates that the realization of digital photoelasticity is limited only by the prototype production. © 2004 IEEE.
