Resumen:

The cytoskeleton is the network of polymeric structures which is a highly dynamic component of the plant cells. Cytoskeletal networks have been indicated for almost every intracellular activity, from cell division to cell movement, cell morphogenesis, apoptosis, and cell signaling. In plants, this filamentous network is comprised of microtubules and actin filaments. Cytoskeletal elements are also involved in many signaling pathways, including abiotic stress responses. Deciphering the role of the cytoskeleton requires efficient omics technologies, advanced imaging methods, and molecular genetics. In this chapter, we discuss the structure of actin filaments and microtubules, the available methodologies to study these structures and finally the perception and cytoskeletal response to abiotic stresses such as salinity, drought, or temperature. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.
