Resumen:

From 2015 to 2019, 12, 935 indigenous cases of Zika virus (ZIKV) infection have been identified in 29 out of the 32 states (territories) of Mexico, including 7134 PCR-positive pregnant women. Moreover, 19 cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome (SGB) associated with Zika and 54 cases of congenital syndrome associated with Zika (SCZ) have also been documented. However, some authors have suggested that the magnitude of ZIKV in Mexico is much greater. In addition, there is a socially perceived inability to stop the outbreak when other countries, most of them in the developed world, did so efficiently and quickly. This chapter describes the epidemiological aspects of ZIKV infection in Mexico in recent years. © 2021 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
