Resumen:

Currently, chemical acaricide use remains the most common method of Rhipicephalus microplus control; however, its excessive use has led to the appearance of tick strains resistant to the main classes of conventional acaricides. When there is a lack of response to tickticide treatment, the farmersa' reaction is to increase the frequency of treatments and the dose of acaricides, which increases the cost and selective pressure for resistance. Due to the above, there has been a need to implement strategies to intelligently use acaricides and thus increase their useful life and delay the appearance of resistance. This chapter describes the main classes of conventional acaricides, growth inhibitors, and macrocyclic lactones used in the control of R. microplus ticks. Additionally, the most common strategies that involve the use of chemical acaricides for tick control are described, such as the use of synergized acaricides, acaricide mixture formulations, use of growth inhibitors and development of new acaricides with mechanisms of action that are different from conventional ones. It is clear that the use of chemical acaricides as the only form of tick control is a mistake. Therefore, we must consider that tick control should include the use of chemical acaricides together with a systematized combination of strategies and technologies for integrated tick control. © 2021 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
