Resumen:

Sleep is a fundamental process for the whole of living beings, therefore the chronic lack of this process, or its poor quality, increases the risk of physical and mental health disorders. Sleep is not a unitary process, since it is integrated by two different stages: Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and NREM sleep that are characterized by presenting different behavioral and electrophysiological characteristics. Circadian and homeostatic mechanisms act together to regulate wake-sleep oscillations throughout the 24-hr period. © 2020 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved.
