Resumen:

Specimens representative of the three orders of reptiles studied exhibit behavioral sleep. However, the electrophysiological correlates of behavioral sleep in reptiles are often inconsistent and contradictory, sometimes within the same species. On the other hand, evidence for the existence of sleep in amphibians is ambiguous. While some species may show signs of behavioral sleep, others do not. Behavioral sleep in amphibians may occur without any change or with inconsistent changes in brain activity. Neurotransmitters related to states of vigilance regulation in mammals have been evidenced in both reptiles and amphibians. © 2013 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
