Resumen:

Population growth has increased the energy demand at an exponential rate, and fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and gas are the main energy source and the largest source of carbon dioxide emissions responsible for global warming. Hydrogen can be used as a clean fuel to combat global warming and reduce the carbon footprint at power generation, but its production must be uncoupled from fossil fuels to achieve the goal of net zero emissions for 2050. A solution to this problem is hydrogen production from renewable energy with a low carbon footprint, such as hydroelectric, biofuels, or through the biological path as photolysis, dark fermentation, and photo fermentation. Therefore, this chapter focuses on green hydrogen production by using renewable resources for power generation. © 2023 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
