Resumen:

In this work, three wastewater samples of a treatment plant were collected at different stages and two different dye contaminated water solutions were prepared: one with methylene blue (MB) and another with methyl orange (MO). Different properties such as pH, conductivity, absorbance, chemical oxygen demand (COD) of all above mentioned samples were measured and compared with the properties of drinking and distilled water. On one hand, the pH of the treated water was around 6.6 which is very near to the drinking water pH ~ 7. However, the conductivity and COD values of the treated water are relatively higher in comparison with drinking water. On the other hand, the pH of dye contaminated water samples turned more acidic or basic depending on the dye molecule, whereas no significant changes were observed in terms of conductivity and COD values. UV-Visible absorbance spectra confirm the presence of MB and MO in the dye contaminated samples. Nevertheless, no dyes were detected in the treated wastewater samples. A detailed analysis with respective causes in the variation of each parameter is discussed and reported. © 2023 IEEE.
