Resumen:

This work presents a methodology to produce materials with specific properties by conventional powder metallurgy route. The fabricated component is a dental implant based on Ti6Al4V powders, with different microstructures and properties that will allow a better and faster osseointegration. This component is made of three different layers, an upper one with high hardness, a core with large pores and an outer layer with smaller pores. The interphase bonding was very good and no cracks were detected. The mechanical properties of the component are in the range of the ones of human bones and its pore size distribution covers a wide range, which should contribute to improving the cell and bone growth. The mechanical properties are suitable for bone implants with a high admissible strain. It was concluded that the proposed process allows fabrication of tailored materials for biomedical applications. © European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA)
