Resumen:

In densely populated cities, on-ground structures seismic performance can be significantly affected by their interaction with underground structures. However, the studies that have been carried out to address this problem have considered very simplified scenarios. Major earthquake preparedness on urban areas located in seismically active regions, such as Mexico City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, requires a proper assessment of the seismic demand expected to occur in strategic infrastructure located both on-ground (e.g., buildings, bridges), and underground (e.g., tunnels). This paper presents the partial results of an ongoing research project which main goal is to evaluate the beneficial and detrimental interaction, establishing, based on the results of numerical models and key sites instrumented in Mexico City, the area of influence and the significance of this interaction in the seismic performance of the surrounding structures which eventually will lead to design recommendations. © 2022 12th National Conference on Earthquake Engineering, NCEE 2022 All rights reserved.
