Resumen:

Here we report the results of an academic exercise to locate a potential site for underground CO2 storage in east-central Mexico. The objective of this study was to interpret the main lithostratigraphic units and structures within a 3D seismic cube. Potential units serving as traps are determined below the oil production levels. The results are discussed in the frame of the petrophysical properties of the reservoir. We consider that the the proposed unit is effective for CO2 storage, because of its isolation from the surface and overburden ? by multiple and continuous shale seals. © NSG 2019.
