Resumen:

Resuspended dust emitted by unpaved roads contains particles that penetrate the respiratory system. When these particles come from contaminated soils, toxins reach the brain or blood circulatory system, generating health disorders. Scientific studies assessing the effect on human health, and the methodologies to determine their roadside transport, together with their physical and chemical characteristics, are presented. Techniques to collect road dust samples due to vehicular and wind erosion are described. Transport models relating vehicular and road wind erosion resuspension and corresponding human exposure are also discussed. Some of the literature results indicate that children and the elderly are at special risk. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
