Resumen:

The arrival of Covid-19 in March 2020 caused the Mexican economy to fall by 8.5 percent. The absence of a countercyclical policy and the inordinate effort to make austerity prevail as the guiding principle of macro policy has made the recovery process increasingly complex. In addition, the Mexican economy faces a massive backlog in investment and infrastructure that has not been resolved. The structural problems, such as the high levels of poverty and inequality, and the stagnation of the economy, seem not only not to be resolved but to worsen. The final section of this entry deals with the causes that explain the fractures and wounds in Mexico that do not seem to heal. © Sara Hsu 2023. All rights reserved.
