Resumen:

Our planet faces immense social-ecological stress, and incremental changes adopted by governments and other social actors to tackle it are not enough. Deeper interventions are needed if we are to curb the current unsustainable trajectory of the Biosphere. Therefore, deliberate transformations towards more just and sustainable states are required. Human agency is considered an essential ingredient for any effective and fundamental change that might be expected from sustainability interventions. Transformative space-processes aim at facilitating change towards a more sustainable and just future by co-creating narratives and frames that may enable the emergence of new agency. Because transformation is a relational collective activity, the design of participatory spaces-processes can facilitate the social interactions necessary to catalyse such change. This chapter delves into some aspects for enabling transformations and the importance to promote agency by processes of reframing. It concludes with a reference to Transformation Laboratories, as spaces for exploring and enabling agency. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, Emil Dauncey, Vandana Desai and Robert B. Potter.
