Resumen:

Microneedle devices (MNDs) have been considered during the past decade as one of the most promising resources in the design of novel drug delivery systems. MNDs are designed to act as minimally invasive, painless systems that can allow the administration of drugs in diverse organs and tissues, overcoming the potential drawbacks of classic drug delivery routes, such as subcutaneous injections and other transdermal delivery methods. This chapter covers the types of designed MND in order to optimize the delivery of diverse pharmacological agents, their properties, and the diverse materials used for their preparation. Finally, we included the most recent materials and manufacturing processes employed to improve these promising devices. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd.
