Resumen:

The main objective of the research is to develop a test to assess assertiveness skills in university teachers. Therefore, teacher assertiveness was evaluated by formulating a questionnaire containing 34 statements on a Likert scale. These statements were divided into three categories of assertiveness: As an Individual, Collaborative Work and Teaching Practice, with the last category further split into three subcategories: Evaluation of Learning, Acknowledgment of the Role of the Teacher, and Creation of a Suitable Classroom Environment. The pilot group for this research comprised 27 graduates from the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at UNAM. The test findings showed that the participants' assertiveness could have been better. The mean score was 37 out of a potential 60 points. There was a substantial difference between the participant with the highest score (53) and the one with the lowest (21). The category Acknowledgment of the Role of the Teacher received the highest score (73%), while Collaborative Work received the lowest (41.4%). © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
