Resumen:

The sleep-wake cycle is a physiological complex process that occurs in practically all animal species. The regulation of sleep and wakefulness is tightly orchestrated by several, neural circuits and molecules that are distributed along the brain and brain stem. In this chapter, we briefly introduce about the neurochemical and neuroanatomical substrates that generate sleep and wakefulness and mainly described the role that anandamide (AEA) has in modulating them, resulting as a promising mechanism that regulating sleep with high value in the translational medicine. © 2025 Elsevier Inc.
