Resumen:

The objective of the study presented here was to determine the differences in the levels of anxiety and depression between those who were in confinement and those who were not, as well as the level of distress caused by confinement. A total of 318 Mexican adults between 18 and 74 years of age participated voluntarily; most of them were college-educated and employed during confinement period. The depression and anxiety subscales of the Revised Symptom Inventory were used, as well as two items in which participants were asked if they were in isolation and how much they had been distressed by being in isolation. Results showed that those who were confined had higher depression scores compared to those who were not in isolation. No group differences were found for anxiety. In addition, those who were greatly distressed by isolation had higher depression and anxiety scores than those who were mildly distressed. Results are compared with findings of previous studies. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
