Resumen:

The Covid-19 pandemic crossed higher education classrooms affecting students in different areas of their lives. This study analyzed the psychosocial and socioemotional factors related to family and economic conflicts in students facing social confinement. A survey was given to university students with six categories of closed and two open-ended questions. Subcategories were created based on content analysis. In the category of family conflicts there were four subcategories: (1) increased stress and anxiety in the face of new family dynamics; (2) family violence; (3) bereavement due to death of family members; and (4) problems of invasion of privacy of personal spaces. In the category of economic conflicts, the subcategories identified were: (1) adjustment to the family budget; (2) economic problems of the student; and (3) concern for the national economy. Socioemotional processes require a paradigm shift, which entails new social structures on emotional expressions linked to psychosocial and cultural factors that dimension them. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
