Resumen:

The interest in understanding the behavior of a solvent surrounding a nonpolar solute and, in particular, a surface is now well documented, leading to several books devoted to this topic (see, for example, References 1 and 2). The reasons are manifold: basic research in statistical mechanics of liquids to develop analytical approaches for complex problems; the use of new powerful techniques, Monte Carlo and Molecular Dynamics, for envisaging the microscopic role of the solvent in an interesting system; the biochemical interest because of the relevance to biological membranes and enzymic catalysis; and the industrial interest of micelles, microemulsions, and surfaces. © 1992 by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
