Resumen:

In Latin America, one of the greatest regions in natural resources, ecosystems, biodiversity and productive lands continue to deteriorate due to the predominance of an extractive model. The constant practice of exploitation in this region has been common through the development of megaprojects related to mining, water and oil exploitation, land conversion and deforestation, and biodiversity depletion - Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia being among the countries with the highest number of socio-environmental conflicts. Various foreign companies positioned in the Latin American region contribute greatly to socio-environmental conflicts, particularly firms from the United States, Canada, and Spain. Although Latin American environmental law and institutions have developed over the past decades, all the reforms have had limited effectiveness. And, as in other parts of the world, indigenous peoples and local communities in the Latin American and Caribbean region are at enormous risk when exercising their rights to environmental protection and justice. © The Editors and Contributors Severally 2024.
