Resumen:

In this study, numerical simulationsNumerical simulation of a crucible furnaceCrucible-furnace used for the preheating of a metallurgical ladleMetallurgical-ladle were conducted. Two case studies were simulated: Case A was used to validate a benchmark model, in which the current operating conditions of the system were recreated. In this case, the furnace was considered to operate with a fuel?air ratio of 12:1. For Case B, the simulation was conducted for a fuel?air ratio of 10:1. The same methodology was applied for both cases. Case A was validated through experimental measurements using K-type thermocouples over 50 s. The difference between the computed and experimentally measured temperature shows a minimum relative error of 0.19% and a maximum of 4.9%. Additionally, an improvement in the operation of the crucible furnaceCrucible-furnace was observed for case B, in which a 10% higher temperatureTemperature within the same time frame was achieved. © The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society 2025.
