Resumen:

The COVID-19 pandemic has uncovered the complex and enduring physical and mental consequences of the virus on survivors, leading to difficulties in returning to pre-COVID health status and quality of life. The term ?Long COVID,? first introduced by a patient on social media, has been widely accepted by the scientific and medical community. Despite the over 24,000 published studies in PubMed as of March 2023, there is still no consensus on the name and definition of this postacute infection syndrome (PAIS). Long COVID is characterized by over 200 persisting, fluctuating, and/or new symptoms that affect various systems and organs, making it challenging to diagnose and manage. Promising research is ongoing to better understand the pathophysiology and risk factors of Long COVID to aid in its prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Addressing the diverse and variable Long COVID kaleidoscope is an urgent priority for governments, biomedical communities, and public health organizations. © 2025 Elsevier Inc.
