Resumen:

This chapter analyzes the largest Chinese corporations currently investing in Latin America, examining their investments by country and sector, and identifying the main institutional investors with a stake in those corporations?including major mutual funds and asset managers based in the United States. The chapter shows Chinese firms invest heavily in the region's vital resource sectors, especially oil, gas, and mining. Since at least the 1980s, economic extraction from Latin America has enabled robust accumulation by enterprises engaged in global finance, and the chapter concludes this is likely to continue with Chinese corporate investment in the region. That investment might also enable the region to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels, but whether nations can leverage such investment to achieve greater regional economic independence and a "just transition" to an environmentally sustainable economy remains an open question. © The Editor and Contributing Authors Severally 2025.
