Resumen:

© 2025 SPIE. All rights reserved. The use of freeform surfaces in optical systems is becoming increasingly important, as they make optical systems more compact, lightweight, and reduce the number of components. However, freeform optics pose significant challenges for manufacturing, as traditional optical workshops are designed for producing components with rotational symmetry. On the other hand, by leveraging the introduction of new optical materials, the existing mechanical industry infrastructure, and current optical testing methods, milling machines can be used to fabricate molds for producing these types of components and validating their surface finish. Therefore, this work describes a methodology for manufacturing freeform aluminum molds using a milling machine and selecting the best optical test to verify their surface finish.
