Resumen:

© 2024 IEEE.Analyzing the variability in scorpion venom composition is crucial for antivenom production due to its impact on the effectiveness of these products. This variability can arise from genetic differences among individuals of the same species, which could affect toxin synthesis mechanisms and, consequently, venom composition. A dditionally, diet, predator exposure, and specific climatic conditions also influence venom composition leading to adaptive responses. The study employed techniques such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), SDS-PAGE, and mass spectrometry. Chromatographic methods including reverse-phase chromatography and electrophoresis under reducing and non-reducing conditions were used to study protein variability. The results revealed significant differences in venom composition between individuals of the species Centruroides bicolor in the David district compared to individuals from other adjacent regions. These variations suggest the presence of genetic variability that may impact antivenom effectiveness.
