Resumen:

© 2026 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.Chalcones are known to be privileged scaffolds due to their wide range of applications. Among these, chalcones have been used for the synthesis of metal complexes. The exceptional coordination chemistry of this class of organic compounds makes chalcones unique ligands. Given the ease with which they can be synthesized, various chalcone derivatives have been reported in recent years. With this synthetic flexibility, some derivatives can act as monodentate, bidentate, or polydentate ligands when donor groups are specifically introduced. Most of the stable complexes formed are with metals such as Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Ru(III), Pd(II), Rh(III) and Pt(II), demonstrating chalcone versatility as ligands. This chapter discusses recent developments in strategies for synthesizing stable chalcone metal complexes and their applications in organic synthesis as catalysts, in developing chemosensors for metal detectors, and in medicinal chemistry. Regarding the latter field, chalcones have antitumor, antimalarial, antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, antifungal, and antimicrobial activity. This book chapter will compile information on synthesizing metal-chalcone complexes related to their application.
